Toyota to Add More Fuel-Saving and Safety Devices in 2020

By Justin Cupler | July 23rd, 2019

With all its hybrid models and most of its lineup including top-notch advanced safety features like automatic emergency braking and lane-keep assist, the latest shift in Toyota’s lineup should shock no one. Starting in 2020, Toyota will spread automatic engine shut off and automatic park to most of its vehicles to keep fuel consumption low and prevent accidents near the Waukegan area.

The Automatic Shut Off feature will be part of the Smart Key System and will spread to most of the Toyota lineup in 2020. The current Auto Shut Off system runs through an app and requests to turn off the engine if it’s idled for a specific amount of time, In the new system, there will be a series of audible and visual warning delivered through the Smart Key System that informs the owner the vehicle will turn off soon to conserve fuel and reduce emissions.

Automatic Park will also become part of the Toyota lineup in 2020. This system will prevent accidental rollbacks after parking by automatically engaging the “park” gear and/or applying the parking brake if the driver exits the vehicle without placing it in “park”
